Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute.
Full-time position based in Glenwood Springs, CO. This independent nonprofit fosters literacy and language engagement in the homes of young children to improve school and reading readiness. Every week, 1,600 local children along an 85-mile corridor receive a book bag with four storybooks (using a national model). Preschool and kindergarten classrooms partner to help distribute the weekly book bags. Programs designed in-house provide parent education, outreach for children not enrolled in preschool, and guidance to enhance family read-aloud and learning strategies at home.
Budgeting, financial reporting, bookkeeping, database management, public relations and school partner relationships are all managed in-house under the direction of the executive director (ED). As the primary development person, ED writes grant requests and cultivates funding opportunities.
ED manages a staff of four to five (mostly part-time) responsible for program delivery. Because the staff is small, ED often helps with facilitation of parent presentations, training of partner teachers, delivery of books to classrooms, organization of book inventories and much more.
Idea candidate will possess: Four-year college degree; progressively responsible management experience; successful fund-raising background; passion for equality in opportunity for children; excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with budgets and financial reports; and the capacity to innovate. Education/childhood development experience desired but not required.
