Re: Temporary Ban on Private Use of Fireworks

Authority: Section 110.020.180 of the Glenwood Springs Municipal Code authorizes the City Manager, whenever she finds that there is high fire danger, to impose a fire restriction and/or ban for such periods of time and under such actions as deemed necessary. The City Manager, in consultation with the Fire Chief and County Sheriff, finds that there is high fire danger due to current conditions including low soil moisture, low humidity, warm temperatures and gusty winds. The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for Western Colorado and Eastern Utah due to these critical fire weather conditions. Accordingly, the City Manager hereby imposes a temporary ban on the private use of fireworks as that term is defined in Section 110.020.150(a) of the Glenwood Springs Municipal Code for the immediate public peace, health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Glenwood Springs.

Notice: This Administrative Order shall serve as notice of the fireworks ban set forth herein. Pursuant to Section 110.020.180 of the Municipal Code, notice of the fireworks ban shall be published as soon as practicable in the official newspaper of the City and shall become effective on the day following such publication. The City Manager shall provide notice of the fireworks ban to the City Council at its next regular meeting.

Period of Order: This Administrative Order shall be in effect until November 1, 2021 unless otherwise terminated or extended by the City Manager or City Council.

Debra Figueroa, City Manager
